US Open Day 2 - Big Upsets and Narrow Escapes

US Open Day 2 - Big Upsets and Narrow Escapes

Day two at the US Open was one of those days where you didn't know where to look. With so much happening, including upsets galore in the men's draw, Catherine Whitaker and David Law had to convene twice to discuss it all on The Tennis Podcast.

Defeats for Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dominic Thiem and Roberto Bautista Agut have thrown things wide open in the bottom half of the men's draw. Is Tsitsipas simply suffering from burnout? How well did Andrey Rublev do to navigate the drama and disrupt him? And is it even a surprise that Thiem lost?

Elsewhere, Catherine and David chat about Rafael Nadal's comfortable win over John Millman, Denis Shapovalov's demolition of Felix Auger-Aliassime, and defeat for Kyle Edmund.

In the women's draw, three-set wins for Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep and Coco Gauff are covered. And is Aryna Sabalenka beginning to rediscover her best form? Her prospects are discussed after a thrilling win over Victoria Azarenka.

The Tennis Podcast will be produced daily throughout the US Open, in association with The Telegraph.

A newsletter will be sent out each day, containing daily predictions, Matt's stat, and a trip down memory lane. To receive it - http://po.st/TTP_Newsletter.

We will crowdfund our 2020 season of The Tennis Podcast in December. If you like the show, want to support it, and would like a December 1st reminder, put your e-mail address down here - http://po.st/SupportTheTennisPodcast.
