Biblical Sexuality Part 3 – The Christian’s Discernment

Flee Sexual Immorality with Humility // 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

  • It is really easy to slam on the sexual sins of others and hide yours in the dark
  • God is very clear on His desire for us to honor Him with our bodies
  • Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit
  • Flee from sexual immorality because it is a sin that will ravage you
  • Glorify God with your body
  • Speaking on issues with: Orientation, Gender, social media/internet, physical

Stand on God’s Word with Conviction // Romans 12:1-2 – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

  • Our worldview is founded in God’s Word rather than the culture
  • Let God’s Word refine your minds, not the cultural agenda
  • God’s Word is from Him and it is trustworthy – Psalm 33:4
  • It is profitable for us in all situations so that we may be prepared for GOOD WORKS
  • Not prepared to bash people, but for good works
  • Conviction moves you to actions
  • Your beliefs inform your actions
  • Speaking on issues with: Orientation, Gender, social media/internet, physical

Move Towards People with God’s Heart // John 4

  • God’s heart is for sinners. Not simply for them, but for them to come to Him and follow Him
  • This means we are called to move towards the LGBTQ community and those that struggle with sexual sin, and not away from them. Not to affirm them, but to let them know that we see them and want them to know Jesus and have a relationship with them
  • Jews had no dealing with Samaritans
  • Jesus still approached her
  • Acknowledged sin in her life and did not affirm it
  • Showed that He cared for her by approaching
  • Called her to a better life via the Good News
  • Speaking on issues with: Orientation, Gender, social media/internet, physical

Discussion questions:

  1. Why is it so easy for us to overlook the sexual sin in our lives?
  2. Why is our body and how we use it important to God?
  3. Who gets authority in our worldview? Why?
  4. Why is being convinced of God’s Word important in regard to sexuality?
  5. What is the two-way dynamic of God’s heart?
  6. What about the interaction with Jesus and the woman at the well that is helpful in regard to approaching those that are in sexual sin?
