DnD: The Nine Hells

Hell hath nine layers — and we're going through every single one.

In this episode of Roll For Lore, we take a deep dive into the Nine Hells of Baator, one of the most iconic and terrifying planes in all of Dungeons & Dragons lore. Whether you're a dungeon master building your next campaign, a player whose character just made a very bad deal, or a lore-lover who can't get enough D&D worldbuilding — this episode is your complete guide to the Nine Hells.

We break down every layer of the Nine Hells, from the blood-soaked battlefields of Avernus to the frozen wasteland of Cania, and introduce the archdevils who rule each one — including Zariel, Dispater, Mammon, Fierna & Belial, Levistus, Glasya, Baalzebul, Mephistopheles, and the lord of all devils himself, Asmodeus.

Topics covered in this episode:

All nine layers of the Nine Hells explained
The archdevils and their motivations, powers & politics
The Blood War and its impact on the infernal hierarchy
How the Nine Hells fit into D&D's Great Wheel cosmology
Lore deep dives perfect for DMs and players alike

Whether you're prepping a Baldur's Gate 3 run, running Descent into Avernus, or just want to know your Mephistopheles from your Mammon — pull up a chair by the eternal flames. Class is in session.
