JHGC in Conversation with Carl Wilkens on the Genocide in Rwanda Part One

The JHGC’s Education Officer Mdu Ntuli is in conversation with Carl Wilkens. Carl Wilkens (former Director of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency in Rwanda during the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994) is the only American who chose to stay in Kigali, Rwanda throughout the 1994 genocide, and he and his Rwandan colleagues worked together to save the lives of hundreds of victims. In 2011 Carl released a book, I’m Not Leaving, depicting the courageous choices made by people in the face of genocide, and every summer he takes a group of teachers back to Rwanda to learn about the reconciliation and trust building journey that the country has been on. Thank you to the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and Carl Wilkens for making this podcast possible. Learn about Carl Wilkens' current work and his non-profit organisation "World Outside My Shoes" by visiting: www.worldoutsidemyshoes.org The JHGC was honoured to host Carl for a series of workshops in South Africa in October 2019. You can hear a recording of his public lecture here: https://soundcloud.com/user-858426360/in-conversation-with-carl-wilkens-part-one ~ Please share your comments and questions!
