#289 - Dwayne Russell - Inside the Commentary Box with The Pipe

Dwayne Russell is one of Australia's most recognisable sports commentators, former AFL player, author & host of SEN's incredibly popular talkback show, "Dwayne's World".

What an honour it was to sit down with "The Pipe" and chat about his unbelievable career on the eve of the AFL Season.

Dwayne takes us inside Dwayne's World's "Midday Madness" and how much prep goes into the show. From attempting to watch every single AFL game (start to finish) to staying across the price of the chips at the footy, we talk about some of the great talking points from the callers.

Speaking of prep, Dwayne shares the lengths he goes to for every game to ensure he gets the call right...and how it truly affects him if he makes a mistake! Plus, the difference between radio and TV commentary.

We get some great stories from behind the curtains at Fox and some his favourite co-callers & special comments callers to commentate with. Chief, Derm, Howie & Huddo...they certainly aren't short of talent.

We take a look at the Pipe's bingo card as he gives us a teaser for some new lines to look out for in 2026...and the ones he wants to sack! Sad news if you're a shake and bake fan!

Dwayne shares his love of music and the song that kept him running during his playing days, being teammates with Gary Ablett Snr, his most iconic moments and behind the scenes of writing his fictional novel, "Killing for Sport".

This is an awesome chat and we know you're going to absolutely love the one and only, Dwayne "The Pipe" Russell!
