Failure (Video)

Failure (Video)

Failure returns to SPIN Magazine’s Lipps Service with Scott Lipps for one of their deepest interviews yet. Ken Andrews, Greg Edwards, and Kelli Scott sit down to discuss the legacy of Fantastic Planet, the chaos of the 1990s alternative rock scene, addiction, sobriety, the band’s breakup and reunion, and why their music has continued to resonate with newer generations decades later. The conversation dives into the making of their documentary Every Time You Lose Your Mind, their connection to Maynard James Keenan and Tool, touring during the golden era of alternative rock, working with Steve Albini, the rise of LA’s underground club scene, and how bands like Paramore, Deftones, and Tool helped carry Failure’s influence forward. The band also opens up about Hayley Williams’ admiration for Failure and her appearance on “The Rising Skyline.” Scott and the band also explore the sonic experimentation behind Failure’s music, the emotional themes woven throughout Fantastic Planet, the stories behind songs like “Stuck on You,” and others, plus how the modern music industry compares to the Slash Records and Warner Bros era.
