The Gods Themselves - Isaac Asimov - Hugo Award 1973

The Gods Themselves - Isaac Asimov - Hugo Award 1973

A science fiction novel. One narrative strand follows a group of scientists' attempts to understand a mysterious energy source, the "Electron Bomb," discovered through an exchange of materials with a parallel universe, and the ensuing ethical dilemmas and power struggles. A second narrative explores the lives of a unique triad – a Rational, an Emotional, and a Paternal – in a world where matter can exist in different states and where their civilisation faces a crisis linked to this energy source. The third narrative is set on a lunar colony, where the characters discuss the Earth's decline, the colony's technological advancements, and the secretive activities of the Selenites. The overall themes revolve around scientific discovery, ethical responsibility, and the complexities of human relationships in the face of existential threats.
