Released September 24, 1979, The Long Run took three years to record — three years of tension, exhaustion, creative battles, and the slow unraveling of a band that had achieved more than almost anyone thought possible. The result is an album that doesn't quite reach the heights of Hotel California but contains some of the most honest and world-weary songwriting of the Eagles' career. From the title track's quiet defiance to the tenderness of "I Can't Tell You Why" to the rollicking energy of "Heartache Tonight," this is a band wringing every last drop from a partnership that was almost done.
