Could Anyone Have Stopped What Happened To Lindsay Clancy?

Could Anyone Have Stopped What Happened To Lindsay Clancy?

Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott and Tony Brueski sit down for the full conversation on the Lindsay Clancy murder trial — from the clinical reality of postpartum psychosis to the public debate that has turned this case into the most divisive trial in true crime.

Lindsay Clancy is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of her children Cora, Dawson, and Callan in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023. Her defense concedes she killed them and argues she was in the grip of postpartum psychosis. The prosecution argues deliberate planning.

Shavaun starts with what the public gets wrong about the postpartum spectrum. Baby blues, depression, and psychosis are not the same condition at different intensities. Psychosis involves a rupture from reality that can present behind a mask of normal behavior. Lindsay's providers allegedly charted intrusive thoughts when she was describing something far more dangerous. A bipolar diagnosis came only after the killings.

She then examines the prescribing chain — thirteen medications over four months, a husband who begged the doctors to stop, a suicide hotline that turned her away, and a system that allegedly never assembled the complete picture. The conversation closes on the public divide — why people cannot agree, why the judge blocked lay witnesses, what the Andrea Yates comparison reveals, and what justice looks like when the person who committed the act may not have been present in her own mind.

Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of Night Bird, discuss the Lindsay Clancy case.
