En muchos países de América Latina, el pelo largo es importante. En pueblos y ciudades, muchas personas dejan crecer su pelo. Para ellas, el pelo largo es parte de su cultura y de su familia. Algunas personas piensan que cortar el pelo es como perder algo importante. En algunas comunidades indígenas, el pelo largo muestra conexión con la tierra y con las tradiciones. En línea, grupos de personas sudamericanas dicen que las trenzas son un símbolo de identidad y fuerza. Los padres a veces hacen trenzas en el pelo de sus hijos para continuar con las costumbres. Hoy, el pelo largo todavía es un símbolo de orgullo en la región.
