The Siders Had Three Child Brides Before The 16 Kids

Siders Ohio house of horrors child bride history — before the sixteen children were found in Vinton County, marriage records from Gallia County, Ohio, and Mason County, West Virginia, show three girls between fourteen and fifteen years old were married into the Siders family orbit over a six-year span. Judges signed. Parents signed. Nobody intervened.

The youngest was fourteen and pregnant when she married a forty-eight-year-old cousin of Gary Siders Sr. in 2002. A year later, a fifteen-year-old identified in records as Gary Siders Jr.'s own sister was married in the same county. And in 2008, Elizabeth Russell — the woman now facing sixteen counts of child endangerment — was married at fifteen to Gary Siders Jr. across the state line in West Virginia, where the law set no minimum marriage age at all.

Tony connects the marriage pattern to the family now facing sixty-four felony charges and asks the question the entire legal system was built to avoid — whether what happened to those girls before the weddings was itself a crime that should have been prosecuted instead of papered over with a marriage license.
