Trump Headlines White House Correspondents' Dinner; Measles Cases Rise

President Donald Trump headlined a scaled-down White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, three months after the original event was cut short by a gunman who allegedly sought to assassinate the president. Trump, in a long speech, at times criticized several reporters by name — sometimes in searing terms — while also saying he had respect for journalism and the press in the room.

Also this weekend, US measles cases in 2026 have already outpaced last year’s total and have reached a level not seen in more than three decades, with 2,318 confirmed infections reported. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says vaccine policy under the Trump administration has been upended since Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became secretary of Health and Human Services, with thousands of career scientists at the CDC fired and funding for local health departments frozen.
