Can God use someone with a broken past?

Today’s devotion from Joshua 2:1–24 tells the powerful story of Rahab, a woman in Jericho whose faith changed the future of her family and placed her in the family line of Jesus Christ.

Rahab lived in a city marked for judgment, yet she heard about the mighty works of the Lord and believed. While others in Jericho were filled with fear, Rahab responded with faith. She hid the Israelite spies, risked her life, and declared, “The Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

Her faith was not just words. It moved her to action. She protected the spies, asked for mercy for her family, and tied the scarlet cord in her window as the sign of deliverance. That scarlet cord points us beautifully to the saving blood of Jesus Christ, which covers and protects all who trust in Him.

Rahab’s story reminds us that no past is too broken for God’s grace. No person is too unlikely for God to use. True faith trusts God enough to act, even when obedience feels risky.

This message is for anyone who feels disqualified by their past, afraid to step out in faith, or unsure whether God can still use their life. Rahab’s story declares that God’s mercy reaches the unlikely, restores the broken, and writes redemption into places others would overlook.
