Did Ohio Get To The Siders Kids Just In Time?

Here is the line that started it. Ohio's attorney general described what he had seen inside the Hamden home where sixteen children were found. If law enforcement had waited a certain amount of time longer, he said, there was a very high probability of a death or multiple deaths.

Deputies were not even looking for children when they arrived. The warrant came out of an unrelated investigation.

Sixteen kids, from eighteen months old to eighteen years old, came out of that house. The sheriff said they had been kept for most of four years in a room measuring roughly twelve feet by twelve feet and said most of the livestock in his county lived better. The attorney general called it pure evil and said the children looked like almost feral animals.

Four adults, each charged with sixteen counts of endangering children. Four not guilty pleas.

Now hold the other side. Elizabeth Siders was fifteen and seven months pregnant when a judge and both sets of parents approved her marriage in 2008. Her attorney says the case is about poverty and isolation, not evil, and that evil requires malice. Seventeen years later she is charged alongside the people who signed for her.

Dreeke and Tony argue through all of it, including how a town of roughly seven hundred people, plus relatives who say they visited, could miss what was in that room.
