Dr. Sherika Newman Talks Heal Thyself, Turning Trauma Into Triumph & Finding Wholeness!

Dr. Sherika Newman has spent her career helping others heal. Now, she is sharing the story of how she learned to heal herself. The board-certified physician, national leader in hospice and palliative care, and founder of Doctor in the Family joins The Roundtable with Robert Bannon to talk about her debut memoir, Heal Thyself: From Childhood Trauma to Triumph. In the deeply personal book, Dr. Newman opens up about a journey that began with a childhood marked by poverty and abuse and continued through teenage motherhood, medical school, multiple marriages, motherhood, and the demands of building a successful career in medicine. But Heal Thyself isn't simply about what she survived — it's about what it took to move forward, confront the past, and find wholeness. Across ten chapters, Dr. Newman connects stories from her medical practice with her own experiences, exploring faith, resilience, identity, family, community, and the people who helped carry her through the seasons when giving up felt easier than continuing. On The Roundtable, Dr. Newman gets candid about why she decided it was finally time to tell her story, how her experiences shaped the physician she became, and why healing can require the same compassion we so freely offer to others. We also talk about the community that stood beside her, the importance of therapy and chosen family, and the message she hopes readers take from Heal Thyself: trauma may be part of your story, but it doesn't have to determine how that story ends. Dr. Newman brings the same warmth and honesty to this conversation that have made her the doctor friends, families, and patients turn to for compassionate, patient-centered care.
