Did Nolan Wells Ever Appear In That Viral Video?!

Here is the uncomfortable thing about the Nolan Wells case: three weeks into any death investigation, a careful one and a slow burial look exactly the same from the outside. Both are quiet. Both say pending. Both ask you to wait without giving you any reason to believe the waiting ends somewhere good.

So how does anybody actually tell the difference? That is the whole show.

Nolan Xavier Wells was eighteen years old when he went to Horn Island on the Fourth of July and did not return with the friends who brought him. Two days on, a federal park ranger found him in the water. A state autopsy has been completed and sealed. An independent autopsy came back undetermined. A district attorney says nothing gets released until a grand jury reviews it.

We lay out three things a person can actually check instead of guessing. Whether the withholding has a rule behind it. Whether the record is growing while nothing is being announced. Whether the people asking questions are getting access or getting doors shut in their faces.

We run the most-shared piece of evidence in this case through that same standard, and it does not survive, for a reason that comes down to a single measurement.
