Nick Reiner Turned Down The Help Lindsay Clancy Chased

Nick Reiner Turned Down The Help Lindsay Clancy Chased

Nick Reiner had help brought to him for seventeen years and kept walking out of it. Lindsay Clancy went looking for help and couldn't get anybody to keep her more than a day. Same three words on both files.

His father directed a movie about it. Nick co-wrote the film, it premiered at a festival with the two of them sitting there, and he told NPR that making it was part of his recovery. He said people who go through addictions of all kinds are kind of hard to love.

Then a petition from a jail cell. Court filings show Reiner asked a judge to release the trust his parents created for him, reported at more than one and a half million dollars by Variety and NBC and at one point seven million by Rolling Stone. He wanted it to re-hire attorney Alan Jackson and to buy basic support items at the commissary.

On the other coast, Clancy and her ex-husband Patrick both filed lawsuits accusing her medical providers of failing to properly diagnose and treat her condition. There are named parties. There are signatures on a discharge.

He has pleaded not guilty and no motive has ever been officially confirmed. Her jury has not returned a verdict. Tony Brueski explains why treating these two as one story is how every person who made a decision in either of them stays anonymous. A Hidden Killers investigation. Underneath both cases is a condition experts covering the Clancy trial put at roughly one to two women out of every thousand who give birth. Rare enough that most clinicians aren't looking for it. Common enough to happen thousands of times a year in this country. That combination is how something stays misunderstood for decades, and why the conversation about it keeps getting merged with a case that has nothing to do with it.
