Kohberger's New Petition Zeroes In On WHO?

Kohberger's New Petition Zeroes In On WHO?

He said it four times, under oath, in open court: he killed each of them deliberately. A judge asked Bryan Kohberger point blank whether he was pleading guilty because he was guilty. Yes. Whether anyone forced him. No. That's the record from the day he gave up his right to a trial in the University of Idaho student murders.
Thirteen months later, he wants that trial back. His handwritten petition claims his lawyers failed him, that proof of his innocence was buried before he signed anything, and that he was scared into the deal with lies about what life in prison and death row in Idaho actually involve. The centerpiece of his innocence claim — "clumps of hair" in a victim's hand — isn't in any court filing or lab report. It's from a book. The real DNA testing, done by his own defense expert, found that hair consistent with the victim's own.
Buried further into the petition is a claim about who Kohberger says was present during his meetings with his own defense attorneys — a detail that could end up cutting against him harder than anything the prosecution has argued.
Tony Brueski lays out what prosecutors had ready to use against him — an amended list of a hundred and eighty potential witnesses — and why the legal road Kohberger is now attempting almost never leads where he wants it to, no matter how the petition is written. He also separates two entirely different pieces of hair evidence that keep getting reported online as if they were the same thing.
