Jury Selection Begins in Tupac Shakur's Murder Trial, the Clancy Defense Finally Gets Its Doctors, a Kidney Deadline Runs Out

Jury selection began Monday in Las Vegas in the murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, the only person ever charged in the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur. Davis has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement; prosecutors do not allege he fired the shots, but that he orchestrated the drive-by in retaliation for an assault on his nephew hours earlier. The case rests heavily on Davis's own 2019 memoir and prior interviews. Judge Carli Kierny is presiding; jurors are expected to begin hearing evidence August 17. Also: in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Judge William Sullivan reversed a pretrial ruling and will allow Lindsay Clancy's defense to call two medical experts on the injuries she sustained going out a second-story window — evidence that answers the Commonwealth's suggestion that her suicide attempt was not genuine. Clancy has pleaded not guilty and contests criminal responsibility in the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. And on Long Island, a federal judge denied John Gotti's grandson Carmine Agnello a third delay of his prison surrender in a $1.1 million pandemic-loan fraud case, after months of postponements tied to a planned kidney donation to his mother.
