Ep. 940: Losing 200 Pounds to Hike the PCT - Part 1 - Josh “Long Story” Murphy

Ep. 940: Losing 200 Pounds to Hike the PCT - Part 1 - Josh “Long Story” Murphy

Growing up poor in rural Pennsylvania as a morbidly obese child, and later adult, left Josh with very little prospects in life, by his own account. He was convinced he was bound for an early grave and life wouldn’t amount to much.

One day a radical shift in perspective and life habits, brought on by the smallest comment from an acquaintance, led Josh to losing over 200 pounds and pursuing a life long dream of military service. Although Josh was making his way into the military, a chronic condition, due to his previous weight, kept him from advancing.

However, where one dream dies another was born.

Following his army dreams crashing and burning he took to the 2,650 mile Pacific Crest Trail where he hooped to find purpose, discover who he truly was and what he wanted out of life.

This is his story, well, part 1 anyway, because it's kind of a long story.

Ep. 437: Life Outside the Box - First Solo Human-Powered Circumnavigation of the Globe - Erden Eruc

Erden Eruc has a world-class adventure resume. With 15 Guinness World Records, tens of thousands of miles of first-ever human-powered achievements, and an emotional story that started his journeys, you'd think he'd have a best-selling book and endless speaking engagements by now. As you'll hear, none of these things have come into fruition for Erden. It has been a grind from the beginning to the present. However, that hasn't crushed his thirst for adventure and need for bigger and bigger challenges. It certainly hasn't taken away from the amazing feats Erden has accomplished. Actually, the fact he doesn't have huge sponsors and crowds of fans makes his motivation all the more impressive. What are you willing to go through to chase your dream? Will it be worth it in the end? Listen in on today's episode from someone who knows how lonely it can be on the top.  http://www.erdeneruc.com http://www.around-n-over.org https://www.linkedin.com/in/erdeneruc/ https://www.instagram.com/erdeneruc/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erden_Eru%C3%A7 Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 435: Solo Circumnavigation of Lake Winnipeg at 18 Years Old - Alex Martin

Ep. 435: Solo Circumnavigation of Lake Winnipeg at 18 Years Old - Alex Martin

Alex is not your typical 18 years old. Instead of setting out to trade school, college, or hanging out at home after the summer of high school graduation, Alex decided he wanted to do something adventurous to transition into this new phase of life called adulthood. That desire led him to kayak 1,750 km around the edges of Lake Winnipeg, something incredibly daunting considering the remoteness of much of the lake as well as the unpredictable weather. Alex is incredibly articulate for his age and understands that this trip was an amazing opportunity to show the world the importance of keeping resources like Lake Winnipeg free of pollution, invasive species, and a refuge for the human soul. He’s already an experienced adventurer and we’re super excited that Alex joined us for this interview as we’re sure he’ll be an even bigger name in the outdoor community very soon. https://www.lakewinnipegcircumnavigation.com/about-alex https://www.instagram.com/alex.marrtin/ https://alexmartinphotography.myportfolio.com/   Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
