He Had 11 Execution Dates. Now, He's a Life Coach.

Thomas Miller-El was sentenced to death in Texas and faced execution 11 times.

After spending years on Death Row, he was eventually given a life sentence. But instead of simply trying to survive prison, Thomas found a new purpose: helping other inmates change their lives.

Today, he is a life coach inside the Texas prison system, teaching inmates how to think differently, understand their behavior, develop values, and make better choices. And he says the results can be life-changing. At one prison, his work helped transform the culture, with violence and assaults dramatically reduced. He has also returned to Death Row to mentor prisoners facing the same death sentence he once faced himself.

Thomas believes peer-led programs can change the entire prison system because people listen differently when the person teaching them has lived through the same experience.

In this powerful interview, he talks about surviving a police shooting, growing up in segregated Texas, his years on Death Row, facing 11 execution dates, and the moment he realized that after preparing himself to die, he had to learn how to live.
