Supply Chain Pioneer: An interview with Dr. Benn Konsynski

Any friend of the APICS body of knowledge will be familiar with the Extended Enterprise. APICS discusses the supply chain maturity or evolution model going from stage 1 multiple dysfunction to stage 4 extended enterprise. The main emphasis is organizations need to work beyond their operational boundaries by sharing and collaborating with trading partners. The stage 4, extended enterprise is just that, when at least one business process goes beyond the boundary of the individual corporation. As I did more research into the history of the supply chain evolution concept I ran across an article, ‘Strategic Control in the Extended Enterprise’, from Jan 1993 written by Dr. Benn Konsynski. What I can gather this is one of if not the very first reference to the extended enterprise.
