[Regulation Practice] Use Your Special Interest to Settle Your Nervous System

[Regulation Practice] Use Your Special Interest to Settle Your Nervous System

This is a five minute resourcing practice that uses one of your special interests as the resource. If you've spent years being told your special interest is a distraction, this one goes the other way. It's wonderful, regulating, a source of joy... it's no distraction and is highly valuable to our lives.

Resourcing is a self-care practice where you bring something good to mind on purpose and pay attention to what your body and your nervous system do while you're there. In this one the resource is a passion or special interest of yours, something you're genuinely into. I walk you through picking one, getting specific with the details, and then noticing any shift that shows up. It works whether your brain runs on pictures, sounds, words, or facts, and in noticing our shifts, neutral is a completely valid result. Lots of options and adjustments for different neurotypes.

What you'll get from this practice:
  • How to use a special interest as a regulation resource
  • A menu of ways to notice change, built for how neurodivergent brains actually work
  • Why neutral is a good enough result
  • A quick version you can use in thirty seconds on a hard afternoon
  • Permission to treat your passion as a genuine tool you already have
