I Played Final Fantasy VII Revelation as a Complete FF7 Noob

I got to play Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but there’s one catch: I’m a huge Final Fantasy VII noob.

I don’t have decades of FF7 nostalgia, I don’t know every piece of lore, and I’m definitely not going to catch every reference. So instead, I’m looking at Revelation from the perspective of someone relatively new to this world.

How does the combat feel? Is it overwhelming for a newcomer? Does the world make me want to see more? And most importantly, did playing Final Fantasy VII Revelation make me want to finally dive deeper into Final Fantasy VII?

Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
