Ed Sheeran Biography Flash: Loop Tour Fireworks Meet Macklemore Controversy at MetLife

Ed Sheeran Biography Flash a weekly Biography. Ed Sheeran has spent the past few days at the center of a very modern music-and-politics storm, all spinning out from his blockbuster Loop Tour shows at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. As reported by NorthJersey.com and the Asbury Park Press, Sheeran drew sold‑out crowds on September 4 and 5, commanding the stadium with his trademark one‑man loop pedal performance, fireworks, and a guest appearance from Camila Cabello, while also reflecting on his 2023 courtroom victory in the “Thinking Out Loud” copyright case and how he turned that saga into the song Old Phone on his 2025 album Play. According to those local reports, he told fans that if his name has been in the news in the past decade, it was usually about court cases and accusations of stealing songs, and that he had to prove in a New York courtroom that he had not stolen Marvin Gaye’s Lets Get It On. But the biggest biographical development this week is less about the setlist and more about who shares his stage. Variety, TMZ, and USA Today all report that his opening act, rapper Macklemore, used his MetLife slots to deliver an extended pro‑Palestinian message, repeatedly chanting “Free Palestine” and performing his protest song Hind’s Hall, with Gaza‑war imagery on the stadium screens. That sparked an online petition from the Israeli‑American Civic Action or Council, covered by outlets including NJ.com and Israel National News, demanding that Macklemore be dropped from the remaining Loop Tour dates, and complaining that fans bought tickets for an Ed Sheeran concert, not a political rally. Sheeran himself has not publicly commented on the controversy, a silence noted critically by opinion pieces in the New York Post and Showbiz411, which argue his refusal to speak out “speaks volumes.” The Jewish Chronicle and Stereogum report that pop star Pink amplified criticism of Macklemore via Instagram, while still making her own nuanced statement about Palestinians and Hamas, adding more indirect pressure around Sheeran’s tour. Meanwhile, Israel‑focused outlets and Yahoo Entertainment highlight Boy George attacking Sheeran online as a “fake” for his silence, and one gossip‑style report even speculates about tension between Ed Sheeran and longtime friend Taylor Swift over the fallout; that last angle is based on unnamed entertainment‑industry sources and should be treated as unconfirmed rumor rather than verified fact. There have been no major verified new songs, business deals, or personal life bombshells for Ed Sheeran reported in the past 24 hours; the dominant story is his role, willingly or not, as the host stage for Macklemore’s polarizing activism and the growing calls for him to respond or act. For a long‑term biography, this week may be remembered as the moment his usually apolitical touring world collided head‑on with geopolitics and forced questions about how he uses his platform.
