NHOMAM - Radio Programmers That Chop Up Songs Suck - 09/09/2026

The September 9th edition of The Noon Hour of Madness and Mayhem begins with Viktor announcing that he has entered a new and dangerous phase of mental deterioration: scatterbrain mode. Apparently, the human brain is no longer a reliable operating system, and the show immediately begins investigating whether this is a legitimate psychological condition or merely what happens when you spend too much time working in radio. Peaches, naturally, compares himself to cranberry juice, because apparently beverages are now a personality test, and the conversation quickly turns toward the kinds of deeply unhelpful questions people put on online dating profiles. What is your favorite food? What kind of music do you like? Where is your favorite place? What are you looking for? The answers are always some variation of “I love to travel,” “I want something real,” and “I enjoy having fun,” which provides approximately the same amount of information as a blank sheet of paper. The hosts contemplate the possibility of AI companions becoming part of dating apps, leading to the horrifying realization that someone could soon be looking for an artificial girlfriend specifically designed to be as unhinged as possible. Peaches, apparently unwilling to accept a normal romantic relationship, wants an AI lunatic. Viktor immediately suggests that it should be modeled after his ex-wife. This is how the episode establishes its emotional baseline.

The discussion then takes a hard left into the strange world of Becca's pranks. Viktor explains that Becca has a habit of messing with him, but after knowing her for so long, he has developed an internal prank-detection system capable of identifying deception based on the slightest changes in her behavior. Unfortunately, that system does not protect him from her daughter, who apparently inherited the family prank gene and decided that bedtime was the perfect moment to deploy chemical warfare. Viktor had ordered prank supplies for Becca, including fake poop and fart spray, but the fart spray was apparently too irresistible to leave untouched. While Peaches was attempting to go to bed, Becca's daughter burst into the room and sprayed the substance directly onto his chest. The product was supposed to be a short-lived olfactory assault, but rather than smelling like a traditional fart, it apparently smelled more like an aggressively offensive block of Parmesan cheese. This technical distinction is important to Viktor, because there is apparently a hierarchy of terrible smells, and cheese-based chemical attacks rank differently from actual flatulence. Peaches then imagines Lieutenant Crain arriving in a full drill-sergeant outfit to announce that the child is being shipped off to boarding school. The incident ends with her being sent to bed, but the larger lesson is clear: never leave prank supplies within reach of a family that treats household warfare as a recreational activity.

From there, the show returns to Becca, who had messaged Viktor with a suspicious claim that someone had called her and said he was seeing another woman. Peaches immediately recognized that this was probably a prank because, according to his logic, Becca would not have calmly typed the accusation into a Facebook message if she genuinely believed he was cheating. She would have called him and started screaming. This leads to a discussion of how he could have responded by pretending the accusation was true, finding a random woman from an Idaho Falls singles group, generating an AI picture of himself with her, and sending it back just to make the situation dramatically worse. The episode has now managed to combine online dating, AI-generated romantic evidence, relationship sabotage, and Facebook into one theoretical prank scenario. Meanwhile, Viktor insists that he has never needed dating apps because women simply flock to him. He claims to be irresistible, requiring no effort, no wooing, and apparently no functioning dating profile. Peaches is not particularly convinced and begins poking holes in this self-assessment, especially when Viktor starts describing himself as a man who wins people over with personality rather than looks. The hosts also revisit the recurring cultural phenomenon of men complaining about their wives, contrasting it with people who treat their partners like royalty. One minute the conversation is about being irresistible, and the next it is about whether anyone should ever say “I hate going home to my wife.” Somehow, the answer is still less complicated than creating a dating profile.

Viktor then unveils the story of how his romantic life allegedly began: at a McDonald's in Pocatello. He describes working at the old Fifth Street McDonald's when he was young, back when the building still existed in its original form, and recounts how his future ex walked in wearing a blue dress on prom day. She was apparently getting ready to attend prom with her boyfriend, accompanied by her mother, and decided that the appropriate thing to do before the event was to deliver Viktor a love note. This immediately raises several questions, none of which are answered satisfactorily. Why was she going to McDonald's? Why was she giving a note to a cashier while preparing to attend prom with somebody else? Was Viktor simply standing there, taking orders and accidentally becoming the protagonist of a teenage romantic drama? Peaches points out that this is an enormous red flag, while Viktors treats it as evidence that he was destined to be pursued by women. The hosts begin imagining her making the rounds of every fast-food restaurant in town, handing identical love notes to the employees at McDonald's, Carl's Jr., and potentially anywhere else with a drive-through window. The idea that the note might have been photocopied becomes a major source of amusement. Viktor insists that they eventually spent a long time together, despite the relationship being off and on repeatedly, which Peaches identifies as another red flag. The discussion then shifts to modern relationship advice, including a mutual friend named Brian who suggested sending a message saying, “I miss you right now.” Peaches explains that he worried the message would be interpreted as an attempt to manipulate his ex or sneak back into her life. Brian's wife, when informed of the suggestion, apparently dismissed it as a terrible idea. The conversation concludes with the possibility that Peaches might return to McDonald's to find romance again, although Viktor points out that the age difference between Peaches and the average cashier could create some complications. The episode's first romantic strategy has now been reduced to fast food, handwritten notes, and questionable timing.

After the break, the show dives headfirst into the miserable ecosystem of online dating. Peaches discusses a friend named Eric who streams himself attempting to match with women on Bumble, allowing everyone to watch the same repetitive cycle of profiles, swipes, and awkward conversations unfold in real time. Bumble is explained as the app where women were originally expected to make the first move, although the hosts argue that this arrangement quickly became difficult because starting a conversation with a complete stranger is apparently an impossible social challenge. The examples provided are devastatingly realistic: “Hi,” “Hey,” “How are you?” followed by the conversational equivalent of a collapsed bridge. One person says they are doing great, the other responds with “NM u,” and the entire possibility of romance dies in a ditch. Peaches argues that people who are genuinely interested will generally make an effort, while Viktor observes that many users are probably competing for attention with dozens or even hundreds of other profiles. This is why, he says, people need to stand out. Peaches claims that he would never succeed through a phot...
