Almost as famous as Nelson in his lifetime, Cochrane is the model for Hornblower and Patrick O’Brien’s Jack Aubrey. His life - one very much ‘lived on the edge’ - is packed with glory, passion, political intrigue, scandals, court cases and love affairs.
