PRI interim CEO talks changing landscape for responsible investment

Climate Week NYC is underway, and the All Things Sustainable podcast is on the ground talking to leaders from across industries and around the world — including the global investor community. In today's episode, we sit down with the head of an organization that has about 5,000 members representing around $139 trillion dollars in assets under management: The Principles for Responsible Investment, or PRI.

PRI was set up with the UN and the world's largest institutional investors in 2006 to drive responsible investment. Twenty years later, the organization is working with many parts of the financial ecosystem — including asset owners, investment managers and service providers — to incorporate environmental, social and governance issues into investment practice.

To learn how these stakeholders are adapting their investment strategies in a tumultuous year, we talk to PRI's interim CEO, Cambria Allen-Ratzlaff.

Cambria is nearing one year in the role, and she says the companies that sign on to PRI's principles are focused on resilience in 2026.

"It encapsulates both the capacity needed by investment portfolios to withstand the pressures of policy uncertainty and geopolitical tension, but also the resolve required of responsible investment professionals amid the changing environment that we're in," Cambria says.

Looking ahead, Cambria outlines PRI's roadmap for the remainder of 2026 and beyond — including what to expect at the organization's flagship PRI in Person conference in Amsterdam Oct. 13-15.

"The practice of responsible investment is still facing enormous scrutiny, and we want to make sure we stay the course," Cambria says. "At the end of the day, responsible investment is good investment."
