Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 5: What Did February 16 Mean?

The Caleb Flynn jury heard Alleigha Botner describe a sudden return to intense communication just before Ashley Flynn's death. Botner testified that Caleb contacted her again in mid-February, and by February 15 the two were exchanging hundreds of messages about divorce, work and where they might live.

One message attributed to Caleb said, "February 16th. A day I'll never forget." Botner testified that she believed he was talking about leaving Ashley and beginning the divorce process. The next morning, after hearing Ashley had been killed, Botner said she messaged Caleb: "I just heard the news. What is going on. Is this real?"

Botner also testified that she resigned from Christian Life Center because she expected the affair to come out. She said the last time she saw Caleb before court was February 16, when he told her, "It didn't happen the way we thought it would, did it?"

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged the home as a burglary scene. His defense says Ashley was killed by an intruder. Botner's testimony gives jurors her interpretation of Caleb's words before the killing - and the words she says he used afterward.
