King Jay Davila: “A Family Affair” | MURDERISH Ep. 109
On the evening of January 4th, 2019 in San Antonio Texas, a 911 came in from a man saying that someone had stolen his car with his infant son inside. The man, Chris Davila, said he’d pulled into the parking lot of a Food Mart. He left the car engine running and went inside to get a bottle of water. When he came out, his vehicle and his son were gone. Sadly, the baby boy’s body was found buried under a bridge. Three people were arrested and the community was shocked to learn who the suspects were. Even more shocking, was that none of them were charged with murder. Introducing Dirty Money Moves: Women in White Collar Crime
Dirty Money Moves: Women in White Collar Crime deep dives into cases involving a more rare type of criminal, women who commit financial crimes. In season one, host Jami Rice of MURDERISH podcast takes listeners on a journey to investigate Mary Carole McDonnell, a self-proclaimed heiress and the CEO of a TV production company based in Los Angeles. In 2018, with help from her high-profile Hollywood attorney, Mary Carole secured a $15 million loan with Banc of California. When the first payment came due, the heiress couldn’t be reached. She had allegedly skipped town and bank representatives quickly learned that they’d likely never see that money again. Before the FBI could question the heiress‘s controversial attorney about his potential role in the alleged bank fraud, he died suddenly under bizarre circumstances. And a probe into the attorney’s background revealed that he had ties to one of America’s most notorious scandals, the one involving pop icon Michael Jackson. A dive into Mary Carole’s background revealed that the alleged multi-million dollar scam against Banc of California wasn't her first rodeo. The heiress had a long history of financial misconduct. But why would a seemingly successful CEO and heiress to a fortune build a side hustle that included alleged scams against even those who were close to her? In season one of Dirty Money Moves: Women in White Collar Crime we expose the REAL Mary Carole McDonnell and all of the complex lies she told for decades, including a sensationalized tale about the kidnap for ransom murder plot involving her little sister. We unravel how Mary Carole managed to hustle numerous intelligent people and sophisticated businesses out of roughly $30 million dollars, and whether the female hustler had help along the way. This is a puzzling and complex tale about greed, deceit, shocking truths, and an unlikely perpetrator whose story is interwoven with Hollywood’s darker side. apple.co/dirtymoney Learn more about your ad choices. Nicole Montalvo: “Like Father, Like Son”丨MURDERISH Ep. 107
When feelings for another person run deep, people are often inclined to see the best in that person. It’s not uncommon for unsettling behavior to be excused rather than seeing it as a warning sign and acting on it. But this idealism can put someone in harm’s way without them realizing it until it’s much too late. When Nicole Montalvo went missing in October 2019, investigators quickly learned that a lot was going on in her personal life and sadly, her circumstances were not all that unusual. Nicole’s disturbing murder led to three arrests and one trial. Vincent Chin: “Modern Day Lynching” | MURDERISH Ep. 104
Since the 1880s, immigrants from all over the globe have arrived in the United States hoping to attain a better quality of life, the American Dream. Like so many immigrants before them, Lily and Ben Chin wanted their son Vincent to have more opportunities than he may have had in their native China. In the 1970s and 1980s, however, tensions were high between Japanese and American automobile manufacturers, and that discord extended beyond the auto manufacturing plants. It was at this time that 27-year-old Vincent Chin found himself in peril on the streets of Motor City. His story reminds us why this landmark case is still relevant more than 40 years later. Dr. Teresa Sievers: “Lying in Wait” | MURDERISH Ep. 103
When an alternative medicine doctor was found bludgeoned to death in her Bonita Springs, Florida home in the summer of 2015, friends and neighbors worried a burglar was on the loose, looking for his next random victim. Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told the public that Dr. Teresa Sievers had been bashed in the back of the head after returning home early from a trip with her husband and two daughters. An online sleuth group wondered if Dr. Sievers’s death was connected to that of several other alternative medicine doctors throughout the country who had also died under mysterious circumstances in recent months. The slain doctor’s husband, Mark, had an airtight alibi. Who killed Dr. Sievers and why? The disturbing details of her murder would be revealed in time, and the answers rocked the community.
