Murdered at Work: The Michelle Mockbee Story

In May 2012, human resources manager Michelle Mockbee was brutally murdered inside a secure Kentucky facility where she worked. Co-worker and janitor David Douly became the primary suspect due to suspicious behavior, altered timelines, and a strong financial motive involving payroll fraud. Although Douly was initially convicted in 2013, that verdict was later overturned because prosecutors withheld crucial surveillance footage of an unidentified person near the building. During his retrial, the defense unsuccessfully attempted to shift suspicion toward the victim's husband and another employee, but the jury ultimately found Douly guilty a second time. Following this conviction, the judge sentenced Douly to 43 years in prison, bringing a measure of closure to the victim's grieving family despite the defendant's ongoing claims of innocence.
