Breast Cancer Doesn't Check Your Age: Sheridan Hawes' Story on Being Diagnosed at 31

Breast Cancer Doesn't Check Your Age: Sheridan Hawes' Story on Being Diagnosed at 31

At 31 years old, with three young children at home, Sheridan Hawes was told she had not one but two types of breast cancer.

Sheridan is a dear friend of mine, and over the past 12 months I've watched her face treatment, uncertainty and fear that no one should ever have to go through. She's now in remission, but as she shares in this episode, a cancer diagnosis doesn't simply end when treatment does. It changes you, and it stays with you.

In our conversation, you'll hear Sheridan's honest account of what a diagnosis at 31 really looks like, from the moment everything changed to life after treatment. We unpack the myths and misconceptions that still surround breast cancer, especially the belief that it only affects older women, so you'll come away understanding why younger women need to take their breast health seriously too. You'll also hear what it's like to keep showing up as a mum, wife, and a friend through the hardest year of your life, and why "remission" isn't the same as "it's over."

Whether you've been touched by cancer yourself, are supporting someone who has, or simply want to be better informed, this episode offers perspective, awareness and a real lesson in resilience. Sheridan has shown me what true courage and strength look like, and I think she'll leave you in awe too.
