Ep236: Are rope tops less empowered to stop a scene? Checking your SPEEDometer dashboard (listener mail)

Can it be harder for a rope top to stop a scene than for the bottom? Listener writes in to ask why calling a halt can sometimes feel particularly difficult or risky for the person tying. We often talk about bottoms having permission to stop, slow down or change a scene, but tops can face their own pressures: expectations around performance, responsibility for the experience, and the feeling that once a scene has started they should be able to see it through. In this episode, Fox and Mya explore: • The unspoken expectations that can make stopping difficult for a rope top • Whether tops should have a safeword - and what the benefits might be • Situations in which it may be appropriate for a top to stop a scene • The different cognitive, emotional, physical, safety and risk-management demands placed on a rope top • How self-concept and external pressures can make it harder to call a halt • The SPEEDometer model and how it can help both tops and bottoms check whether they still have the capacity to continue • Practical tools for recognizing when you are approaching your limits and making it easier to stop before you exceed them Anyone can stop a scene. But all of us can make this easier for those in the scene to do so.
