Mega Edition: The Murder Of Rachel Morin (10/5/26)

Rachel Morin was a 37-year-old Maryland mother of five who lived in the Bel Air area of Harford County. On August 5, 2023, she went to the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail for what had been a routine walk or workout and never returned home. Her disappearance quickly triggered a large search, and her body was found the following day off the trail in a wooded area. Authorities determined that Morin had been brutally attacked and killed, turning what began as a missing-person case into a homicide investigation that drew national attention.

Morin’s case became one of the most closely followed murder investigations in Maryland after investigators spent months trying to identify the man responsible. In June 2024, authorities arrested Victor Martinez-Hernandez after a nationwide manhunt, saying DNA and other evidence tied him to Morin’s killing. Prosecutors later alleged that Morin had been abducted from the trail, sexually assaulted and murdered, and Martinez-Hernandez was ultimately brought to trial on charges including murder, rape and kidnapping. Beyond the criminal case, Morin became the face of a devastated family and community, with her mother, children and relatives becoming prominent advocates for accountability and justice in the years after her death.
