Christa Pike: Tennessee Told the Court the Doctor's Qualifications Were WHAT

Pike's lawyers told the court the execution physician had not placed a central line in over thirteen years. The state of Tennessee's response: his qualifications were "not important or relevant." That physician — Dr. Mark Fowler — had already failed Tony Carruthers' execution in May, an attempt that allegedly left Carruthers partially paralyzed. Four months later, the state sent Fowler back in for Christa Pike on September 30. Two doses of pentobarbital. Both failed. Arms blistered and swollen. Pike still breathing on the gurney.
