Nick Young, aka Swaggy P, joins Club Shay Shay for a conversation about the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, the Golden State Warriors, and his career on and off the court.

Nick Young opens up about the Lakers’ future, Austin Reaves, Luka Dončić, and LeBron James leaving Los Angeles, including his thoughts on whether the Lakers have enough to compete for a championship. He also discusses LeBron’s move to the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and what LeBron’s next chapter could mean for his legacy.

Young reflects on facing LeBron James during his Miami, Cleveland, and Los Angeles eras, explaining why he believes LeBron’s second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers was his best version. He also weighs in on the NBA’s all-time greats, while discussing the evolution of the game and the impact of Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Young then shares memorable stories from playing alongside Kobe Bryant with the Lakers, including Kobe’s demanding approach, his competitiveness in practice, and the infamous game-winning shot Young hit after Kobe called him “soft,”. Young also discusses Kobe’s final season, his 60-point farewell game, the incredible demand for Kobe jerseys, and the memorabilia Nick Young kept from Kobe’s final game.

He gets candid about the infamous D’Angelo Russell situation. He also recalls where he was when he learned of Kobe Bryant’s tragic death and his final conversations with Kobe at the Mamba Sports Academy. The conversation shifts to Nick Young’s championship experience with the Golden State Warriors, his relationships with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green, and why he believes role players are essential to winning championships. He also debates whether the Warriors could beat Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal’s Lakers.

They also discuss DeMar DeRozan joining the Denver Nuggets, Russell Westbrook’s career and future, NBA players entering the podcasting world, Paul George, Jayson Tatum, and the changing NBA landscape. Young shares his thoughts on today’s generation of NBA stars, NBA fathers and sons, LeBron and Bronny James, Cameron Boozer, his own children, and his plans for marriage and life after basketball.
