Larkin Returns, Scores in Red Wings Win (and Edvinsson Negotiation Update) - Oct. 7th, 2026

Dylan Larkin is back, trade request and all, as Detroit grabs its first win of the season, 5-3. This Detroit Red Wings podcast has the Red Wings vs Senators recap, updates on the Simon Edvinsson contract standoff, & Justin Faulk's highlight reel goal.

(00:00) - Intro

Justin Faulk splits the D and buries one from a tough angle, and Emmitt Finnie throws down in the end-of-period yard sale as we're finally talking positive hockey.

(04:00) - Larkin's Return & Trade Outlook

Dylan Larkin gets booed on his first shift but earns applause by the end with a goal, an assist and some sticking up for his teammates. Could a soft October schedule have Detroit overly optimistic about keeping him, or would Larkin ever consider changing his mind?

(23:15) - Senators Game Recap

Alex DeBrincat scores twice, including the empty-netter, and Lucas Raymond racks up three assists. Carter Mazur and William Wallinder each pick up their first career NHL point. Justin Faulk hits 500 career points including an amazing individual effort.

(39:30) - Edvinsson Contract Talks

The Edvinsson talks are stuck on AAV, with one reported Red Wings offer at six years and about $8.5 million. Detroit is fielding calls on a trade return, but we still say "pay the tax" and get him signed.

(46:45) - Kasper Injury & Scouting Reshuffle

Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton land on IR, both listed week to week. Shawn Horcoff's changes so far: Kris Draper moves over to lead Pro Scouting, Jesse Wallin leads Amateur Scouting, and Mark Leach returns to the amateur scouting staff.

(52:40) - Panthers Woes & Ovechkin Farewell

Florida loses Aleksander Barkov for roughly eight weeks, and Brad Marchand hurts his knee. Alex Ovechkin makes his final season official, and Calgary's Connor Zary clears waivers.

(57:45) - Overtime Mailbag

Patron questions on Viktor Arvidsson's two-way game and Larkin calling himself a "hockey player" in his post-game interview. Plus, lower-tier prospects who could surprise and whether a reconciliation is still possible.
