5 Kids, 2 Adults Killed by Neighbor From Hell

Stanley Ford, a neighbor who viewed himself as a self-appointed guardian angel, was ultimately convicted of two separate arson attacks in Akron, Ohio, which resulted in a total of nine fatalities, including five children. Investigators utilized surveillance footage, accelerant residue on his shoes, and his distinct walking gait to connect him to the crimes after he grew hostile toward neighbors he deemed immoral. Despite the defense attempting to deflect suspicion toward an ex-husband with a history of violence and raising concerns regarding Ford's brain damage, a jury found him guilty of aggravated murder. Ultimately, because one juror was deeply troubled by his mental health issues, the jury recommended life in prison instead of the death penalty, and the judge subsequently sentenced him to consecutive life terms without parole, paired with solitary confinement on the anniversaries of the victims' birthdays and the fires.
