Matthew Farwell Trial, Lori Vallow Appeal, Lindsay Clancy Retrial & Olney House of Horrors

The red wave died on a truck stop bathroom floor, I was spectacularly wrong about Michigan, and Matthew Farwell’s defense spent two days trying to snap the prosecution’s case over a hyoid bone. Also, Lori Vallow is back, because that woman will outlive us all out of pure spite.

Matthew Farwell Trial, Nov. 2-3: The defense came for Dr. William Smock with a battering ram. Kentucky’s own chief medical examiner on what Smock does and doesn’t do, a hyoid bone specialist in a full-blown rematch with him, a pattern expert on the strap clasp, a DNA expert describing a ligature allegedly crumpled into plastic like a gym sock and never compared to the twin brother, and the FBI’s own bone expert, called by the defense, not the government. The judge told two experts “you may be losing the jury here,” which is federal for “shut up, juror seven is drooling.” Closings Friday. Farwell has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent.

Lori Vallow Daybell: The reason this podcast exists is asking the Idaho Supreme Court for a do-over, arguing she was robbed of her lawyer, a man who also represented her co-defendant. One justice called him a “loose cannon, bull in a china shop, run amok.” Three metaphors, one question. And she’s willing to risk the death penalty coming back to get there.


Lindsay Clancy: Prosecutors want round two but won’t say on what charges. Double jeopardy, the holdout juror, a gag order fight, and Kevin Reddington telling a sitting judge “you’re not going to stop me.” I break down every charge and option on the table and tell you exactly why retrying her is a colossal waste of Massachusetts’ money. Plus a Florida woman charged with secretly recording Patrick Clancy’s father for Instagram content. Leave that family alone.

The Olney House: No new evidence, just the most unhinged paper trail I’ve read all year. R.C. Horsch’s family promising a judge “no recurrence of illegal activity,” a cooperation deal that shaved years off a 20-year mandatory minimum and charged nobody, a missing woman who once spoke for him in court, and a “letter from the mayor” telling cops not to arrest him that nobody can find. Eugene Horsch faces federal firearms and false-credential charges, is not charged in connection with the missing women, and is presumed innocent.
