The 12 Uses of Dragon’s Blood - Harry Potter Theory

The 12 Uses of Dragon’s Blood - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re discussing Albus Dumbledore and the discovery he made in his youth that made him famous. I am of course talking about his discovery of the 12 uses of Dragon’s Blood- an alchemical feat worthy of a place in the history books.

Today, when we think of Dumbledore’s achievements, the accomplishment that stands out most was his 1945 defeat of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, as he effectively saved the wizarding world from a perilous fate. After 1945, there wasn’t a wizarding household in the world that didn’t know his name.

However, what many don’t realize is that Dumbledore is also quite famous from his OTHER achievements in the wizarding world.

Dumbledore lived a long time, 115 years to be exact, and during his formative years he was able to achieve a LOT, beginning to impress other witches and wizards as early as the year 1893.

“In a matter of months, Albus’s own fame had begun to eclipse that of his father. By the end of his first year, he would never again be known as the son of a Muggle-hater, but as nothing more or less than the most brilliant student ever seen at the school.”

And for the remainder of Dumbledore’s studies, with his negative associations now a thing of the past, Dumbledore continued to excel- achieving every award and accolade imaginable.

After the death of his sister, he decided to take a trip to France where he visited his old friend Nicolas Flamel. Flamel was a famed alchemist, and it was in France that Dumbledore studied the ancient art and science of alchemy under his tutelage. After an unknown period of time, Dumbledore returned back to Britain- and it just so happened that in this time period Dumbledore became infatuated with the study of dragon’s blood- specifically it’s uses- a relatively uncharted subject in wizarding culture. Dragon blood was the blood of any of the many species of dragon, and it had 12 uses - all of which Dumbledore ‘discovered’ and subsequently published, earning him widespread recognition. Dumbledore was now world famous.

But despite this discovery catapulting Dumbledore to stardom, there are still a lot of UNKNOWNS when it comes to Dumbledore’s discovery- at least, from our perspective. While the uses of Dragon’s Blood were published in all sorts of alchemical manuscripts, we- the muggle readers- have never been enlightened as to what these 12 uses are. Today, I want to dig in and see what I can find on this subject.

First things first- what IS Dragon’s blood?

Dragon’s blood, as you might have expected, was blood extracted from any species of dragon- a dark red glutinous substance. The blood of a dragon was particularly powerful- but also adaptable- which is why it was eventually discovered to have so much practical application in the wizarding world. It’s worth noting, however, that Dragon’s weren’t the only magical creature with POWERFUL blood.

One sip of unicorn blood could keep witches and wizards alive even when they were an inch from death, but it did come with a big price tag- a condemnation to a cursed existence- a half-life.

Drinking the blood of a Re'em, a type of rare giant horse, granted the drinker immense strength for a short period of time.

And the blood of a Qilin, a mythical creature that was part-dragon and part-horse, had the ability to show people visions.

It’s clear that the blood of certain magical creatures has extremely powerful capabilities, but oddly enough the first two uses of Dragon’s blood that I want to discuss in this video seem fairly mundane by comparison.

WHY the Ministry NEVER Uses Veritaserum on Criminals - Harry Potter Theory

WHY the Ministry NEVER Uses Veritaserum on Criminals - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're going to be discussing Veritaserum- an incredibly powerful (and I feel, underutilized) potion that forces individuals to reveal the truth."It is Veritaserum - a Truth Potion so powerful that three drops would have you spilling your innermost secrets for this entire class to hear. Now, the use of this potion is controlled by very strict Ministry guidelines. But unless you watch your step, you might just find that my hand slips - right over your evening pumpkin juice. And then, Potter... then we'll find out whether you've been in my office or not."Besides maybe Felix Felicis, Polyjuice Potion and Amortentia- I feel as though Veritaserum AKA 'Truth' Serum is one of the most powerful potions in the entire Wizarding World. And given this fact, I can't help but notice that it's ludicrously underutilized (at least in the series). The REAL Reason Grindelwald Was EXPELLED from Durmstrang - Harry Potter Theory

The REAL Reason Grindelwald Was EXPELLED from Durmstrang - Harry Potter Theory

Durmstrang's true 'claim to fame' or rather 'notorious hallmark' was one of its former pupils: Gellert Grindelwald. Grindelwald permanently stained the school's reputation by pushing the boundaries of dark magic even FURTHER than the school permitted, eventually being expelled for 'twisted, dark experiments' and 'near-fatal attacks' on students. But what exactly did Gellert Grindelwald do? Durmstrang was notorious for allowing its students to explore the darker side of magic..How far did he really push that boundary? As these attacks and experiments were never explored in detail, today I'm going to be taking a look at a few theories. Why Didn't Voldemort Become an Animagus? (+The Fate of Those Who FAIL) - Harry Potter Theory

Why Didn't Voldemort Become an Animagus? (+The Fate of Those Who FAIL) - Harry Potter Theory

According to Hermione's research, there are only 7 known Animagi from the last CENTURY. In fact, the ability is SO RARE that those who are able to successfully become an Animagus are required to register with the ministry. So..My question is: WHY are there so few? How is it that this powerful ability is so underutilized in wizarding society? And what happens to those who have tried and FAILED?But perhaps most importantly: Why haven't the most powerful and gifted wizards like Voldemort and Dumbledore attempted it? Or..Have they? Why Don't Dark Wizards Use Avada Kedavra ALL THE TIME? - Harry Potter Theory

Why Don't Dark Wizards Use Avada Kedavra ALL THE TIME? - Harry Potter Theory

The Killing Curse. Avada Kedavra. One of the three Unforgivable Curses, this dark spell is the ultimate symbol of disregard for life. Feared for its infamous reputation, the mere utterance of the words that comprise its incantation would send shockwaves of fear through the hearts of most in the Wizarding World. But my question is..Why isn't it used more often? NO, I don't WANT it to be used more often, but it does feel a little underutilized in the series given how powerful it truly is.Sure, it's an 'Unforgivable curse'- but what's REALLY stopping a Dark Wizard from using it? Especially one that's already been to Azkaban and embraced a life of crime? Why risk losing a duel when you can end it with one simple spell? I mean, it's unblockable and irreversible...The perfect weapon.Today we'll be diving into 5 unique reasons for why Adava Kedavra isn't used MORE in the Wizarding World. Let's dive in. What Made Voldemort & Dumbledore MORE Powerful than OTHER Wizards? - Harry Potter Theory

What Made Voldemort & Dumbledore MORE Powerful than OTHER Wizards? - Harry Potter Theory

Magical power. The ultimate currency among witches and wizards. With enough of it, you can dazzle your classmates, climb the wizarding hierarchy (social or economic), and perhaps - even dare to conquer the world.Whether it's used to protect, create, or destroy, magical power is the ultimate force that shapes the destinies of witches and wizards. But given its significance, what IS magical power, really? Is it simply raw strength - the ability to cast more powerful spells than anyone else? Or is it something deeper, something tied to intellect, skill, or even character? If that's the case, what sets the most powerful wizards - like Voldemort and Dumbledore - apart from others? And perhaps most importantly, what makes performing magic hard? What is it that separates a simple spell from a complex one?Today we'll be diving into 3 of my theories as we peel back the layers of magical POWER in Harry Potter.Let's dive in to it.
