Inclusive Personal Safety & Comprehensive Sexuality Education in Schools | Dr Sangeeta Saksena, Enfold India

Dr Sangeeta Saksena is a gynaecologist, author, counsellor and activist; working in the field of life skills, sexuality and personal safety for over 25 years. Along with Dr Saldanha, she cofounded Enfold Proactive Health Trust in 2001 to work with children, adolescents and adults in this area. Along with Dr Saldanha, Dr Saksena developed a curriculum on understanding sexuality and personal safety that is age appropriate, culturally relevant, values and rights based and respectful and empowering of Self. She has lead the development of the “Suvidha Kit” by Enfold Trust to explore these topics with children with intellectual disability, autism, and sensory impairment.

Dr Saksena has co – authored “On Track” series on Life Skills and Personal Safety for school students from grade 3-9 (published by Macmillan India). She is the author of Life Skills for Self Development, written for Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous) Bangalore and the author of Life Skills - workbooks for adults, and Facilitating Life Skills with adolescents (brought out by Enfold. Dr Saksena initiated and established a PG Diploma and a Certificate program in B Ed course at Christ University on life skills based personal safety and sexuality education. She has presented papers on personal safety and sexuality education for children with intellectual disabilities, and other subjects, at national and international conferences

Dr Saksena has advocated for and participated in developing policies with regards the safety of women and children like the Karnataka State Child Protection Policy, besides working with the Govt. of Karnataka, Delhi, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh on these issues. Since 2018 Dr Saksena has been acquiring training in Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices in the US and in India. Through a trained team at Enfold, she has been promoting training in this field in schools, Child Care Institutions and among Government and NGO staff.
