Hilarious: The Power of Humour

Hey! Good afternoon, listeners. Welcome back to Revel. How's midweek treating you?

If you're looking for a mid-week pick-me-up, I've got a great one.

Being open to humour is one of the simplest ways to improve positivity and joy in life. And it doesn't take much effort—just a willingness to look at things differently.

So today, we're going to talk about the power of humour, how it can help you be happier, and what you need to do to bring more laughter into your life.

I know the idea of "laughter is the best medicine" has been around for ages, but it's only recently that scientists have started to figure out how exactly humour works. And it turns out, there are some pretty surprising ways that laughter can make us feel happier—and more productive.

Well, first off, let's look at some of the ways that humour can actually improve your health. Laughter can reduce muscle tension and relax your body. It also helps with blood circulation and digestion, which are both important for overall wellness. It also reduces stress by releasing endorphins into your body.

But it's not just physical benefits. There are lots of psychological ones too! Laughter can do a number on your mental health by reducing anxiety, stress, depression and even pain—which means there are some real benefits to having fun with friends or family members who make you laugh. Not only will they help take your mind off things and give you something to look forward to when things get tough; they'll also help you feel more connected to them as well as yourself.

So how do we start bringing more laughter into our lives? Well first of all, try looking for opportunities where humour can be incorporated into daily life: like watching a funny movie or TV show with someone else.

You could also start by noticing when you're laughing. This might sound simple, but it's actually harder than it sounds. It's easy to get caught up in your thoughts and miss the opportunity to laugh at something that makes you chuckle.

So what can we do? Try this: next time you're out with friends and family, or even just hanging out watching TV, take a moment every few minutes to check in with yourself. Ask yourself, "What's making me laugh right now?" If there's something funny happening around you, acknowledge it!

If nothing is making you laugh at the moment, then think about what could be funny. Is there anything that would make a good joke? Are there any jokes that people often tell but don't actually make sense? Is there any wordplay that could be made? Do some people in your life have funny quirks or habits that could be mined for laughs?

Having fun is important—we should all try to find ways to bring more joy into our lives!
