Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2000 and served four years with Lima Company, Third Battalion Sixth Marine Regiment as an infantry rifleman. He completed multiple deployments to Afghanistan and one to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. His cowritten book with Wills Robinson is called, The Shot: The Harrowing Journey of a Marine in the War on Terror.
