527: Is your reality real? I think not.

527: Is your reality real? I think not.

Your reality. Is it real? Or is it only as you perceive it and can you alter it - right now? Are you limiting yourself and merely need a paradigm shift to dramatically catapult your life for the better in a short amount of time? This is a continuation of show 524 where we listened to a clip from Zig Ziglar on our true potential. If you missed it, go listen to show 524. Today, coming from the same message from Zig, I asked on my agentkmiller Facebook page, “Do you believe reality is in fact, real? That it is concrete and black and white? Or do you believe “reality” is what we make of it?” The Facebook comments really brought up some interesting perspectives about this. Michelle Prince and I take you through them in hopes of helping you alter what you perceive as your reality. I will tell you, it helped us further change our own beliefs! Values, Motives, and Habits Roundtable | Part 1

#1000: A Values, Motives, and Habits roundtable with myself, Tom Ziglar, and Dr. Randy James to commemorate episode 1000. Thank you for listening, truly. With over 56 million downloads now that means on average, 56,000 people have listened to every episode. I’m truly honored. Values, Motives, and Habits. These are the priorities of our lives and how we strive to practice them. Tom Ziglar is CEO of Ziglar and proud son of Zig Ziglar. Most of you know him well. Randy James is a medical doctor and functional medicine expert. Both guys…I am so grateful to call my dearest friends. More than doing some work together, we do life together and I have spent time with both of them every week for many years talking about the things in our lives that matter, personally and professionally. In this 1000th episode we are having a chat over coffee to discuss what our Values, Motives, and Habits are in the seven spokes of the Ziglar Wheel of Life. I do this with every guest, but now I share the three of us discussing them together. We got so deep, we only made it through three topics and will continue with a Part 2. Esteemable Acts Build Self-Esteem | Part 2: Josh Peck

Esteemable Acts Build Self-Esteem | Part 2: Josh Peck

#999: Self-esteem is generally defined as your overall opinion of yourself and your abilities, or lack thereof. In this episode I’m back with actor Josh Peck to walk and talk through his personal Values, Motives, and Habits. Twice in the show he speaks of building self-esteem by doing esteemable acts. It struck me that we often encourage people to just think better of themselves, when they often don’t because they aren’t proud of who they are and what they do. So here Josh is saying, go be the person you would approve of. Can you imagine if someone said, “I’d like to think of myself as a runner,” but they didn’t ever run? I think you’ll enjoy Josh’s introspective and lessons learned. You can find Josh Peck’s book, Happy People Are Annoying, everywhere, and find him on Instagram along with his 13.3 million followers. A Framework For Your Individual Wellness Plan | Functional Friday

A Framework For Your Individual Wellness Plan | Functional Friday

#998: What is the best, overall health plan for your wellness. There is one, but it is personal and it must be comprehensive. Nobody can easily or quickly tell you the exacts and specifics but we can absolutely help you with the framework. If you were building a car, you can be provided with the necessary ingredients you will need, like a frame, suspension, body, engine, wheels and tires, interior, etc… If you know that, you can choose the specifics that line up with the kind of car you want. For you to be as fully functioning as possible there is a framework of ingredients you will need. There is no magic bullet and one-size-fits-all solution. This episode is an intro to the framework that we’ll continue with in ensuing shows. Leverage The Advantage Of Your Disadvantage | Part 1: Josh Peck

Leverage The Advantage Of Your Disadvantage | Part 1: Josh Peck

#997: Josh Peck is an actor, comedian, podcaster, and social media star who has held lead roles in iconic television shows like 'Drake and Josh' on Nickelodeon, as well as 'Grandfathered' with John Stamos on FOX, and now 'Turner and Hooch' the series on Disney+. Josh has a new book out that I don’t think anyone but me would say is gritty, and I’ll say why at the top of the show. The book is titled Happy People Are Annoying, and I’d add that people who write as wittily as he does are also kind of annoying to me, but the laughs and the heart overcompensate for my envy. Through the recounting of a difficult life, Josh showcases insight that is almost easy to brush over, but we’re going to dig in today and help us all question our perspectives during challenges that help or hurt us. That’s why he’s here, his self-awareness that we can learn from.. You can find Happy People Are Annoying…everywhere. Which is kind of annoying. You can also find Josh on Instagram along with 13.3 million other people. A few more than I have. Also annoying…  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Claiming Control Of Your Mental Health | Part 3: (Sarah Fay) with Dr Randy James

Claiming Control Of Your Mental Health | Part 3: (Sarah Fay) with Dr Randy James

#996: I’m with co host Dr. Randy James to further discuss my previous conversations with Sarah Fay on mental pathologies. We are all on the spectrum of mental health or un health, but when does one dip over into a real disorder, and in either case, what can you do about it? In our growing mental health crisis how much is a result of clinically broken minds and how much is caused by lifestyle? Medical doctors like Randy are the front lines of most mental health issues, so how do they and the system generally diagnose and treat? How much control and responsibility do you have in your mental health. Don’t expect any easy answers as we strive to balance compassion and control. But the point is helping equip you to be more informed about the options and opportunities for yourself and those you love in regards to mental health. Learn more about your ad choices. You Are More Than A Mental Health Diagnosis | Part 1: Sarah Fay

You Are More Than A Mental Health Diagnosis | Part 1: Sarah Fay

#993: We’re taking on mental health and specifically the unprecedented increase in mental illness diagnoses. Here is my take; we are all theoretically on the spectrum of…everything. It’s human nature for instance to feel sadness. To have the feeling here and there of depression or anxiety. Brene Brown’s bestselling book right now is Atlas of the Heart and she outlines 87 different emotions that are normal and healthy. But when do we go over the line from normal to abnormal? From feeling depressed to being clinically depressed? “Having depression or an anxiety disorder?” Do we need or want an official diagnosis so we can get needed help? Or do we want to deny and boycott any such limiting label? Are we all accepting clinical diagnosis and it’s causing us to limit ourselves? This is a big issue and a big question that is affecting all of us. I’ve brought on an expert to discuss it. Sarah Fay is a writer and activist on the issue and has recently come out with her book, Pathological: The True Story of Six Misdiagnoses. Sarah from a young age displayed some unhealthy behaviors and was diagnosed, labeled, and treated. Over the next 30 years she went on to have clinical diagnoses and labels for Anorexia, Major depressive disorder, Anxiety disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Obsessive compulsive disorder, Bipolar disorder, and has also dealt with alcoholism, being a compulsive exerciser, and many bouts being suicidal. You name the drug, she’s been prescribed it and taken it. Today…she is well, though still accepting of a couple diagnoses and medications, but has much to educate and warn us about regarding our current culture which has nearly half of all Americans being given an official, clinical diagnosis during their lifetime. The book is a memoir style writing of her personal experiences and her research into the medical system and how it handles and mishandles us and what the consequences are. Sarah Fay (PhD, Iowa MFA) writes for many publications, including The New York Times, The Atlantic, Time, and The Paris Review. She’s an incredibly accomplished writer, teacher and is currently on the faculty at Northwestern University. She’s the founder of Pathological: The Movement, and you can Find Sarah at sarahfay.org.
