When Your Criminal Gets Out

When Your Criminal Gets Out

Original Air Date: January 9, 1987

Oprah talks to a three-member panel about the crimes committed against them, how their perpetrators were sentenced to lengthy prison terms and how they feel knowing that the criminals can be out or are already out, in one person's case, much sooner than expected. Adjoa Aiyetoro, an attorney with the ACLU National Prison Project, says nonviolent criminals should not be sentenced to prison and violent criminals should receive shorter sentences since prisons tend to create more problems than they solve.

Bittenbinder, who served 20 years on the San Diego Police Department and is the founder of the Strong Defense Organization, Terri Treas, who was a spokesperson and graduate of IMPACT, and Lisa Gaeta, founder and CEO at IMPACT.
