Certain names in Metal are uttered in hushed tones of reverence, as if belonging to godlike, super-advanced creatures from other dimensions. Such respect and reverence are deserving of genre defining prodigies and artists who are often light-years ahead of their own time. In this instance, we’re referring to The Riff Lord Wizard sent to further evolutionize Metal to yet another level of genius rifftactical badassery:

Enter (and HAIL) CHUCK SCHULDINER.

“The Godfather of Death Metal” helped spawn an entirely new genre of metal, blending all of the best elements of progressive and thrash metal while simultaneously intensifying the technicality, musicianship, and profound, thought-provoking lyricism (already inherently part of bolth genres) with beautifully precise craftsmanship and flawlessly executed production. (And to think, at the time, we just thought it was the next wave of Thrash…Nope. This was CHUCK SCHULDINER. This was DEATH. THIS was the dawn of Death Metal!)
