13: The Gorse Hall Murder

13: The Gorse Hall Murder

On the 1st November 1909, George Harry Storrs was attacked and killed in his home at Gorse Hall in the town of Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. This had not been the first attack on his home and police intially found it difficult to find any suspects in the crime. George was a prominent and wealthy man in Stalybridge as he was involved in cotton industry; was his wealth a motive in his death or was it something else? This case would end up leading to two different trials but they would not end up as the police had hoped. Important information provided by:http://gorse-hall.co.uk/TheMurder.htmlhttps://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/local-news/new-suspect-in-100-year-old-murder-977375Jonathan Goodman, The Stabbing of George Harry Storrs, Allison & Busby, London 1983https://www.findmypast.co.uk/Music by: www.dl-sounds.comFollow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastInstagram - TheUnseenPod

12: Dr Michael Meenaghan

On the 10th December 1994, a 999 phone call reached emergency operators. The caller did not say anything but the operators were able to hear heavy breaths. They traced the address of the caller and sent officers out to the house. When they arrived they found the body of 33 year old Dr Michael Meenaghan; he had been shot. The question became who would want to kill such a friendly and good natured person? Important information provided by: https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/12661077.the-morse-murder-mystery-we-cant-believe-spike-is-dead/https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/police-question-ex-girlfriend-of-gun-victim-1387289.htmlhttps://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/11657207.20000-offered-in-blackbird-leys-murder-case-from-20-years-ago/https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-30412613https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13193121.reward-of-20000-as-mother-renews-plea-over-gun-murder-of-gifted-scots-scientist/Further listening: https://soundcloud.com/still-at-large-podcast/dr-michael-meenaghanMusic by: www.dl-sounds.comFollow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastInstagram - TheUnseenPod

11: The Murders of Eve Stratford and Lynne Weedon

In London in 1975, a number of murders were causing panic and alarm to the public. The murders of 22 year old Eve Stratford and 16 year old Lynne Weedon caused a large scale police investigation to be carried out on the hunt for the people responsible. In the years following the murders, other information would be discovered which would turn the investigation on its head and pose many more questions about what happened. Important information provided by: https://www.thesun.co.uk/archives/news/167444/is-tragic-lynda-third-victim-of-the-bunny-girl-killer/https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/fresh-appeal-40-years-after-linked-murders-of-teenager-and-bunny-girl-a2926111.htmlhttps://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/apr/24/police-50-calls-appeal-information-1975-murdershttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11494368/Playboy-bunny-murder-police-launch-fresh-appeal-to-solve-1975-murders.htmlhttps://www.architectural-review.com/today/how-the-london-playboy-club-bankrolled-hefs-empire/8680952.articlehttps://www.findmypast.co.uk/Music by: www.dl-sounds.comFollow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastInstagram - TheUnseenPod

On December 3rd 1998, people in Altens, Aberdeen were making their way home from work in rush hour traffic. It was around 5pm and the roads were very busy with people trying to get home for the evening. 8: The Murder of Gertrude O'Leary

Gertrude O'Leary was a popular former landlady of a pub in Bristol. After leaving the pub she had decided to run a shop in the city and she was well loved and respected within the community. Why then had someone decided to murder her on the 30th June 1949? This was the question that police had to ask themselves and this would lead them to a number of suspicious people and false leads. Important information provided by: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/pub-landlady-brutally-killed-man-4346Music by: www.dl-sounds.com Follow us on social media: Twitter- @theunseenpod Facebook- The Unseen Podcast Instagram - TheUnseenPod

7: The Victoria Street Swindler

7: The Victoria Street Swindler

In 1895, Adolf Beck stepped out of his doorway on Victoria Street in London to be greeted by a woman who accused him of tricking her and stealing her jewellery. Beck was adamant that he had nothing to do with this crime but police were sure they had enough evidence to convict him of this and other crimes relating to fraud. In the years that followed further evidence came out and another conviction occurred. This case would turn out to be one of the most notorious wrongful convictions in UK legal history. Important information provided by: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/the-strange-case-of-adolf-beck-535209.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Beck_casehttp://www.julianburnside.com.au/law/the-adolf-beck-case/https://history.howstuffworks.com/historical-events/10-terrible-cases-mistaken-identity4.htmhttps://www.findmypast.co.uk/https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?id=t18960224-name-287&div=t18960224-277#highlightFurther Reading: Coates, Tim (1999).
