But there is no such motive or sympathetic backstory for the man who brutally killed Karen Buckley, a 24 year old Irish nurse and master's student, who was enjoying a night out with friends in Glasgow in April 2015. As the judge said in his sentencing, Alexander Pacteau, was a "callous and calculating" murderer who took the life of a young woman who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
