Sahara Rose: Connect with Your Highest Self Using Ancient Ayurveda

Episode 221: Sahara Rose is the best-selling author of the Idiot's Guide to Ayurveda (Penguin Random House) and has been called “a leading voice for the millennial generation into the new paradigm shift” by Deepak Chopra. She is a 27-year-old Certified Ayurvedic, Holistic and Sports Nutritionist, wellness blogger and host of the Highest Self Podcast.   • The 3 Ayurvedic doshas: Vata (air), Pitta (fire), Kapha (earth).
  • How to determine your specific dosha.
  • The physical and mental characteristics of each type, as well as your body type and what you should eat.
  • Vata: means “to move,” can be a little spacey if not in balance, are creative and free-flowing.
  • Pitta: the most sensitive of all of the doshas, known for getting things done, should avoid spicy foods.
  • Kapha: stable like the earth, the most likely dosha to become depressed, needs to know how to speak up and adapt to change.
  • If you have excess Vata, take out raw foods.
  • If you have excess Pitta, decrease spicy foods.
  • If you have excess Kapha, decrease dairy and carbs.
  • There are 6 tastes in Ayurveda: pungent, sweet, salty, sour, bitter, astringent.
  • Sweet Foods: sweet potatoes, avocados, butternut squash, quinoa.
  • Sour Foods: lemon, vinegar.
  • Salty Foods : celery, sea vegetables, sea salt.
  • Sour foods: leafy greens.
  • Pungent Foods: turmeric, ginger, garlic.
  • Astringent Foods: beans, lentils, cranberries, pomegranates.
  • An example of what Sahara eats for lunch every day.
  • Her favorite sweetener: liquid monkfruit
  • Why you should remove sweeteners, including Stevia, from your diet.
