What Happens to the Souls Dementors EAT? - Harry Potter Theory

Today, we'll be discussing what in Merlin's Beard happens to a person's soul after it's been EATEN by a Dementor.Dementors are some of the darkest magical beings that we encounter in the entire wizarding world throughout the Harry Potter series. They are completely terrifying to look upon with their appearance being somewhat ghoul-like with skin that's "glistening, greyish, slimy-looking and scabbed, like something dead that has decayed in water" and eyes that are not really eyes but "thin, grey, scabbed skin, stretched blankly over empty sockets" and mouths that are more of a "gaping, shapeless hole, sucking the air with the sound of a death-rattle".And that's not all. In addition to their horrifying contenance, their mere presence is enough to make any environment devoid of joy or warmth, for they have the ability to turn the air intensely cold and consume any nearby thoughts of happiness. After Harry's first encounter with Dementors on the Hogwarts Express in 1993, Professor Remus Lupin explains their existence to Harry..."Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope and happiness out of the air around them. Even Muggles feel their presence, though they can't see them. Get too near a Dementor and every good feeling, every happy memory, will be sucked out of you. If it can, the Dementor will feed on you long enough to reduce you to something like itself - soulless and evil. You'll be left with nothing but the worst experiences of your life."As we later learn, the latter part of Lupin's description of Dementors describes what is known within the wizarding world as The Dementor's Kiss, sometimes called simply The Kiss. And while this morbid act is typically reserved for condemned criminals, it is feared by witches and wizards as a punishment worse than death. The resulting condition of someone who has received The Kiss is a vegetative state in which the person is still alive but basically just a shell of their former self. But if that's what happens to a person's BODY after The Dementor's Kiss, what happens to their SOUL after it has been taken by a Dementor.
